==Pre-1930s==
It seems likely that the Regal is the first building ever to be built on this site. This plot, along with much of the land east of the Regal (now covered by 1930s semis), was originally made up of vegetable patches and cricket fields a field before it was built on for the first time in the early 20th Century. In her Cowley Road history, Annie Skinner writes that part of this plot was Cowley Common Land, used in the 1800s by Magdalen Choir School for playing cricket <ref>Annie Skinner (2005) A Cowley Road History.
