Here's what to do, step by step:
# Decide how long you'd like to commit for, and how often you'd like to check the wiki/emails, so that it feels manageable & rewarding. (Perhaps work to a personal goal of the number of contributions you'd like to process, for a sense of achievement when you reach it.)
# Check the archive@ email account for content which has been emailed in by members of the public. # An auto-You may need to reply & chase up essential details before the content is sent in response to every email to archive@useable (image date, copyright holder's name & copyright license, requesting date/and address/copyright detailsof the photo if not obvious from the image). # Once these essential details have been receivedfrom the copyright holder, upload the content to the wiki with correct details.# Check the collection of images which have been uploaded, but not yet added to any pages, and insert these into the relevant wiki page/s. See the How to contribute page for how-to guide.
# Add any captions or explanatory text you think the images need. See the How to contribute page for how-to guide.
# There is also an additional, ongoing job of checking the collection of images which have been uploaded, but not yet added to any pages. These need to be inserted into the relevant wiki page/s, or deleted if they are duplicates. See the How to contribute page for how-to guide.
# Optional extra: if you're interested in curating your own collection/s on the wiki around themes that interest you (eg, food shops, or LGBT history) this is something you can do too.
