Are you available for a spot of fun, short-term volunteering in October/November 2019?
Do you want to learn and play with digital archiving, new media curation and building the digital commons? Come and be part of creating the open access archive of Cowley Road life. Email hello@cowleyroad.org before 15 October to find out more.
We have two volunteer roles available:
1. History-maker volunteer
This role will help local people add their photos & memories to the archive.
It involves:
- Attending at least one public event (happening in Oxford in October & November 2019)
- Take photos of material brought by members of the public during event/s
- Upload photos & memories to the online archive
What you get out of it:
- Get to meet local people with stories to tell and a shared passion for East Oxford life
- Training in how to use the Mediawiki software powering the archive - the same as that used by Wikipedia
- Experience for your CV in web editing and local history/archiving
2. Archive librarian volunteer
This role will tell the untold stories of Cowley Road, by making images and text accessible in the archive.
It involves:
- Looking through unsorted images, giving them the right name & address
- Adding material to the archive which has been emailed in
- Optional: creating your own personal curated collections of material in the archive, to tell your own story
What you get out of it:
- Indulge your curiosity poring over unseen images and stories, not before published
- Training in how to use the Mediawiki software powering the archive - the same as that used by Wikipedia
- Experience for your CV in web editing and local history/archiving
