CowleyRoad.org is an open, DIY community history project.
What is it?
CowleyRoad.org is like a Wikipedia for the Cowley Road. Every public or commercial building from the Plain to Magdalen Road has its own page. Anyone is free to contribute facts or images. The ultimate aim is to chronicle the architectural and social history of every building, back to the 1850s when Cowley Road was first created from open fields.
The project will be officially launched during Cowley Road Carnival 2017, followed by a series of public workshops. The workshops will collect local people's knowledge, and get people set up to add their memories and research to the website.
Who made it?
This is a project from artist Eleanor Greenhalgh and programmer Charlie Harvey.
How does it work?
Anyone can make an account to start contributing to the project. All contributions are released under an open license, so unlike other archives, all content on the site is genuinely available for free community use. See the Copyright page for more details.
How do I get started?
See the how-to page for instructions on how to contribute.
